Sunshine, sea and support - taking the plunge together

12 June, 2025

It might have been one of the sunniest mornings of the summer and a perfect day to take the plungeMore than 60 people joined us to talk about sea swimming and living well with pain and over 40 of us took a chilly dip. It was a relaxed and uplifting morning, full of conversation and connection.

Huge thanks to our speakers:

Dr Chad Taylor, Clinical Lead for the Jersey Pain Service and Chair of Pain Support Jersey, for sharing how medical care and community support can work side by side.

Dr Julia Morris, who brought together science and lived experience, helping us understand what is happening in the body and brain during cold water swimming and why it can help with pain.

Sally Minty-Gravett MBE, for sharing her story with honesty and humour, showing how swimming continues to support her wellbeing physically and mentally.

We were so pleased to be joined by our Patron Dr Karen Kyd. Being a GP, she really understands how pain affects people and that really came across. We honestly feel very lucky to have her as our Patron. Her support means a lot to us and to our members.

A big thank you as well to the team at St Brelade’s Church Hall for hosting us. It was the perfect spot to start the day.

A huge thank you to Martin Aubert, who gave up his time and expertise to be with us and captured the feel of the morning so beautifully in these wonderful photos. You can see the full photo gallery from the day on our Facebook page. If you share or repost, please credit Martin www.mjohnaubert.co.uk / Instagram: @mjohnaubert
